15th ASEAN Law Association General Assembly Reconvening
On 23 July 2026, the 15th ASEAN Law Association General Assembly Reconvening was held at the Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Bangkok. The session marked a historic milestone for the organization with the unanimous election of its new executive leadership team for the 2026–2029 term.
The high-profile event was attended by His Excellency Atthaniti Disatha-Amnarj, Privy Councillor and former ALA President (the second Thai national to hold the position), alongside prominent jurists, legal scholars, and practitioners from across the 11 ASEAN member nations.
During the plenary session, the Rapporteur General Secretary presented a comprehensive report on the successful conclusion of the activities held from 21–23 July 2026. These included the ASEAN Law Conference 2026, featuring eight thematic sessions covering ASEAN Arbitration, Law and Gender Equality, Law and Environment, Law and Business, Law and Technology, and Law and Education; the ASEAN Moot; and the ALA–CACJ joint sessions, comprising the ASEAN IP Judges and Practitioners Meeting, the ASEAN Insolvency Judges Meeting, and the ASEAN Insolvency Judges and Practitioners Meeting.
Election of New ALA Leadership
Following the report, the ALA Secretary General proceeded with the agenda for the election of the ALA President and Secretary General. The General Assembly unanimously elected Justice Pongdej Wanichkittikul, Presiding Justice of the Supreme Court of Thailand, as ALA President for the 2026–2029 term. Justice Sorawit Limparangsri, Deputy Chief Justice of the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court, was elected as ALA Secretary General.
In his inaugural remarks, Justice Pongdej outlined his vision for ALA, emphasizing that "People give law its purpose. Planet gives law its urgency. Partnership gives law its strength." Under his leadership, he pledged to strengthen ALA, advance justice, and contribute to the continued development of the rule of law across the ASEAN region.
